St Catherine's College

About St Catherine's College

St Catherine’s College, affectionately known as “St Catz”, is the University of Oxford’s youngest undergraduate college, founded in 1962 by historian Allan Bullock. The striking glass and concrete buildings were designed by Arne Jacobsen, combining modern building materials with the traditional college quadrangle (a rectangular area surrounded by buildings). Not only the College buildings but also the cutlery, furniture and lampshades were designed by Jacobsen.

The most well-known alumni of the College include Benazir Bhutto (late Prime Minister of Pakistan), Peter Mandelson (former UK First Secretary of State and Business Secretary) and Joseph Heller (American novelist and playwright).

St Catz is a short walk away from Oxford’s city centre.

Safety and security on campus

In the college, students are overseen by the Programme Director, who implements the day-to-day running of the programme. The Director is assisted by a team of Counsellors who very often are current members of the University of Oxford.

The Counsellors ensure that students are looked after pastorally, culturally and socially during their programme. Students are able to talk informally and frankly to the Counsellors in order to raise concerns or to discuss university applications.

Each campus has a few members of residential staff who live in the college throughout the programme and are able to assist students at any time of the day or night.
