This two-week course, available with a choice of dates in June, July and August, has been specifically designed to provide students with a broad introduction to the intricate details of Law in the UK, and the chance to experience what future study and a career in Law might be like.
Created and taught by experienced legal professionals and academics, the Law Immersion Programme features traditionally structured classroom lessons, seminars, workshops, field trips and guest talks from legal experts. Students will also get the opportunity to apply their enhanced knowledge and skills in a mock trial, which will provide further insight into what life as a barrister, or even a judge, might be like.
After two-weeks of captivating study and practical activities, students will be equipped with increased confidence, a strong base of legal knowledge, a robust set of logical and argumentative skills, and techniques that will enable them to construct convincing arguments using both the written and spoken word.
It is important to note that Oxford Royale Academy is not part of, or otherwise affiliated to, the University of Oxford or any of the colleges at which this course takes place.
Students attending this programme can expect a fascinating two weeks of study, immersed in a discipline that is key to the form and function of human society.
During their time with Oxford Royale Academy, students will take part in discussions and debates on a daily basis, allowing them to practise expressing their views and creating arguments in front of an audience of their peers and a qualified teacher. Students can expect to have their views challenged and their arguments pushed to the limit - a key focus of this course will be enhancing each student's ability to build strong arguments of their own, whilst finding flaws in those of others.
Taught hours will consist of a blend of academic legal topics, including criminal law, human rights law, the law of tort and more, with field trips (destinations are subject to change, but previous venues have included the Oxford Crown Court to watch a live trial, and visits to the Supreme Court in London).
Finally, students can expect to study alongside like-minded peers from around the world, who share the same interest in, and possible ambition for, a successful career in the legal profession.
By the end of the course students will have:

The programme is overseen by the Programme Director, who implements the day-to-day running of the programme. The Director is assisted by a team of Counsellors who ensure that students are looked after pastorally, culturally and socially during their programme. Students are able to talk informally and frankly to the Counsellors in order to raise concerns or to discuss university applications. Each campus has members of residential staff who live in the college throughout the programme and are able to assist students at any time of the day or night.
