Merton College – A New Centre for Summer 2017!

bannerWe are delighted to announce a new center for our 2017 Oxford Summer School!
The magnificent Merton College will be a location for our 2017 summer programmes for ages 19-25. We’re celebrating with some fun facts about Oxford Royale Academy’s newest addition to its Oxford centres.

  • Founded in 1264 by Walter de Merton, Merton College lays claim to being the oldest college in the University of Oxford (Balliol and St Edmund Hall are also contenders).
  • Merton’s Mob Library is the oldest functioning university library in the world.
  • Merton is also home to Mob Quad, the oldest quadrangle in the university.
  • The college was built in three stages from 1288-1378.
  • Notable alumni include four Nobel prize winners: chemist Frederick Soddy (1921), modernist literary icon T.S. Eliot (1948), zoologist Nikolaas Tinbergen (1973) and physicist Sir Anthony Leggett (2003).
  • Merton has a desirable city centre location, meaning that our 19-25 summer school students studying in the college will be able to enjoy easy access to Oxford‘s many amenities.

More information is available on our Merton College centres page.
