What you’ll learn

Through a blend of seminars, lectures and practical projects, you’ll complete a series of fascinating modules, each covering a key part of Sustainability and the Environment.

For Ages 12 to 18

Throughout this module, you will learn about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), 17 guiding principles which provide a blueprint for a healthier, more equal planet Earth. You’ll learn to critically examine what global sustainability is, and research some examples of global policies that have been created to promote global sustainability. You’ll examine how these goals are deeply interconnected, and how progress in one area, such as education, health, or clean energy, can directly influence and accelerate positive change across others, shaping a more sustainable and equitable future for all. Through case studies and critical analysis, you’ll consider how these ambitious goals are being tackled by countries, organisations, and individuals alike and what’s still left to do.

One of the UN SDGs is the commitment to ‘Zero Hunger’. In this module, you’ll deepen your understanding of what this means to the UN, analysing the progress made towards achieving this goal on a global scale. You’ll master key terms in this area, while coming to understand the impact of socioeconomic factors on nutrition, and comparing conventional and alternative farming methods. Finally, after gaining an overview of corporate social responsibility, you will structure a bid proposal for a business initiative that seeks to further the elimination of food deserts.

The way we consume and produce goods is central to the health of our planet. This module takes a closer look at the environmental and economic impact of energy, transport, and manufacturing, and explores how these systems can be redesigned for a more sustainable future. Through discussions on clean energy, circular economies, and carbon trading, you’ll develop a clearer understanding of how change is possible and the role you could play in driving it.

The rapid loss of biodiversity is one of the most urgent and often overlooked consequences of climate change. In this module, you’ll explore the human-driven causes of species extinction and examine the ethical, ecological, and economic implications of this global crisis. From the role of ecotourism to the work of conservationists, you’ll consider what it takes to reverse the damage and how humanity can restore balance with the natural world.

Lasting environmental change depends on informed, effective leadership. This module explores the intersection of politics, ethics, and public influence, encouraging you to think critically about how decisions are made and who gets to make them. You’ll analyse the skills and responsibilities of climate leaders, explore the challenges of public communication, and reflect on what kind of leader you want to be in the face of global challenges.

Throughout this module, you will study the importance of water and marine systems. You’ll begin by diving into the impact of daily consumption of water on the environment, as well as how extreme precipitation events such as floods and droughts lead to water and sanitation crises. You’ll continue to look at the UN’s 13th SDG: namely, conserving and sustainably using the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. You’ll examine the detrimental impact of garbage patches in the ocean, using your creative problem-solving skills to innovate solutions to this critical sustainability challenge.

This module invites you to look ahead and explore what meaningful progress could look like in the years to come. You’ll examine cutting-edge technologies, bold urban innovations, and the rise of climate-focused entrepreneurship which will redefine how we live, work, and connect. Through real-world examples and critical reflection, you’ll consider how fresh thinking and creative leadership can shape a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient future.
