Go East, Young (Wo)Man: UK Students to Study in China

The British Council, who accredit Oxford Royale Summer Schools’s courses, is to offer more scholarships for UK students to study in China amid concerns from businesses that graduates lack the experience to work with the rising economic giant. The council’s Generation UK campaign aims for at least 15,000 UK students to study or gain work experience in China by 2016.
The council’s Generation UK campaign aims for at least 15,000 UK students to study or gain work experience in China by 2016. In 2011, about 3,500 studied in the country, a figure Generation UK aims to increase by at least a third by September 2016. The council said that it would boost the ‘amount and variety’ of available academic scholarships as well as offering two-month funded internships for UK students across China.
Martin Davidson, the council’s chief executive, compared British students’ unwillingness to study abroad with other nations. He said that business leaders had told the organisation ‘many times’ that they ‘fear for the UK in a global economy if our young people do not gain international experience and skills’. He warned that, ‘currently the UK lags far behind other nations in terms of young people’s outward mobility’.
The UK currently ranks 25th in the world in terms of the number of its students studying abroad. But, as we at Oxford Royale Summer Schools know, the UK is a fantastic destination for study. We don’t think that there’s a better city than Oxford. Not only has there been a university in the city since 1249, it is well-established hub of English language teaching, and a fantastic place to immerse yourself in English culture. In 2013 we’re offering a range of English as a foreign language study abroad courses. To start your journey, click Learn English in Oxford for more information. We’ve just one space remaining. Is it your lucky day?
