Course Summary

International Banking and Finance is a fast-changing landscape. This course aims to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of these dynamic areas by providing a systematic overview of the macro level of global financial institutions and the micro level of organisations. With overviews of the different areas of banking investment and corporate banking, students will critically evaluate the micro- and macro-economic inter-relations. Following this, students will assess the dynamics of global financial and monetary systems, and the international role of corporate and investment banking.

Throughout the two weeks, real-world case studies will form an integral part of the programme. These will be utilised in relation to key theories and models, and they will include: the Latin American debt crisis; EMS/EMU and post-Brexit dimensions; the East Asian financial crisis; and the 2008 financial crisis.

Whilst modern banking and finance theory will underpin the course, the central focus will be on the development of practical skills including financial analysis, strategising and numerical reasoning. Towards the end of the programme, there will be a debate on what form the next global financial crisis will take. There will also be professional skills training in both account and relationship management, interpersonal skills, and deal making.
