Students on this course will encounter the fascinating yet complex field of Medicine through theory and practical based learning. The combination of learning styles will enable students to encounter the various types of medicine, the functions of the key organs, and create their own organ model.

Course Summary

Medicine is a very popular yet complex subject field. This course offers students the opportunity to take their first steps into the exploration of Medicine through a fascinating combination of theory and practical lessons. With this combination of different types of learning, students will have the chance to challenge themselves to create a 3D model of an organ of their choice.

Using their 3D models, students will go on to explore the anatomy of the heart, its function, and how the heart circulates blood around the body. The course will also introduce students to how the lungs function and what happens in the body when we breathe. Furthermore, students will also learn how to treat wounds and gain an understanding of the common pattern for basic diseases and how to identify them.

Overall, this one-week course will provide students with a grasp of some of the basic skills required to be a successful doctor.

What will you get out of the Medicine Discovery Plus?

During the Medicine Discovery course you will learn about different types of medicine, as well as the different types of doctor and the roles of a doctor. You will be introduced to the human body as a medical entity with a focus on the key organs, such as the heart, the brain, the lungs and the liver.

As well as theory-based lessons, you will have the opportunity to develop your practical skills. These exciting hands-on lessons will include creating an organ model, performing basic daily medical tasks and learning how to identify some common medical problems.

This one-week course is a fantastic introduction to the field of Medicine; a wonderful start to your potential future career.

A safe and secure summer in a top British boarding school


Students on our Junior summer school courses study either at Uppingham School or St Mary's School in Ascot, our two outstanding Junior summer school venues for 2020. Students will enjoy the facilities of their venue, with extensive grounds and well-equipped learning spaces. Courses at Uppingham run from 28th June to 11th July, while courses at St Mary's run from 12th July to 15th August.

During lessons, students will be taught by experienced tutors, while outside of class they will enjoy a varied extracurricular programme in a safe environment, led by our student counsellors.

Useful information for students & parents


Students will be accommodated in comfortable twin or dormitory rooms, separated by gender - please contact our registrations team if you would like more information. Accommodation is the standard accommodation for school pupils who study at either St Mary's School or Uppingham School, so students are able to get a flavour for what being a pupil at these prestigious UK boarding schools is like. Bathrooms are typically shared between students of the same gender.

Pastoral care & student welfare

The programme is overseen by the Programme Director, who implements the day-to-day running of the programme. The Director is assisted by a team of Counsellors who are there to help pupils with their daily needs and to run activities for them outside of class. The Counsellors ensure that students are looked after pastorally, culturally and socially during their programme. Students are able to talk informally and frankly to the Counsellors in order to raise concerns or to discuss their course. Residential staff live in the school throughout the programme and are able to assist students at any time of the day or night.

Students on this course:

  • Must conform to our age policy.
  • Must be fluent or near-fluent English language speakers – if you are unsure whether your English level is suitable for this programme, please contact our Admissions Team on [email protected] and they will be able to assist you.

Guest Lectures & Debates

At ORA, we go the extra mile to enhance the study abroad experience of our students.
