Students on the Summer School in Boston will enjoy a wide range of enrichment activities in the Cambridge area to further their academic studies and cultural experiences.
Cambridge and the Boston metropolitan area are home to some of the world’s finest academic institutions, including Harvard University, Tufts University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Boston University, Hult International Business School, Boston College and more. Students will have the opportunity to visit some of these institutions and their key sites, such as the world-famous MIT technology museum.
In order to develop their leadership and teamwork abilities, students are taken on the 60-minute RoomEscapers challenge in Boston, putting their skills to the test in order to solve the puzzle and escape. Students must work as a team and show effective decision-making in order to make it through scenarios based on real events in New England, learning the region’s history throughout. Back on campus, learning is consolidated through a series of teamwork and leadership tasks. Each task is uniquely different, meaning that every member of the group has the opportunity to input specialist knowledge to aid the completion of the activity. This interactive workshop refines both confidence and teamwork skills, two fundamental skills for future success.
Throughout their time in Boston, students will take part in public speaking workshops to help grow their leadership ability. The Public Speaking Competition is the culmination of these informative lessons and skill sessions, encouraging pupils to create their own presentations to perform to their peers with confidence, clarity and coherence. The activity ensures that students are able to practise this important life skill in a supportive environment.
Mind Gym aims to alter thought processes by shifting core beliefs through positive thinking techniques. With the application of positive proactivity, the session encourages participants to change thinking and attitude approaches, ensuring they are provided with useful strategies to cope with their studies and future stress.
Expert tuition in debating ensures that students are equipped to make logical, coherent and convincing arguments. With a combination of essential skill sessions and practical opportunities to use their newfound talents, the debating element of the course provides the chance to refine an important transferable skill for the future.
