Bologna, Italy – Excursions

Our ORA summer school in Bologna offers a number of iconic destinations to visit during the summer, including the nearby town of Modena and the city of Florence slightly further afield.




Modena

The ancient town of Modena is just a short trip from Bologna and is steeped in history, with its own medieval university that was founded in 1175. Famed for being the home of iconic sports cars including Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati, it even has a sports car named after it - the Ferrari 360 Modena. Its cathedral, the cathedral tower (Torre della Ghirlandina) and the Piazza Grande (town square) are all UNESCO World Heritage sites. Students will be able to explore its many historic sites and taste Modena's fine cuisine in its many bustling cafes and restaurants.

Florence

The cradle of the Renaissance and home to some of the the world's finest artistic and architectural masterpieces, Florence is one of the world's most beautiful cities, renowned and envied for its museums, galleries and architecture. The birthplace of High Renaissance art, it was in Florence that artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Botticelli lived and worked under the influence of the powerful Medici family. The city's centre has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, with key highlights being its domed cathedral, palaces, galleries, museums and squares. For fashion-lovers, it is ranked among the top 15 fashion capitals of the world.

Rimini Beach

The world-famous beach resort of Rimini - Italy's capital of seaside tourism - is a great escape for students on the Bologna summer school. With its 15km of pristine sandy beaches and a promenade lined with cafés, restaurants and shops, it provides students with the chance to unwind and relax in true Italian style. Students can also explore the Roman sites of interest near Rimini town, which dates from the 3rd century BC.



Bologna Tour

A full guided tour around Bologna led by an experienced tour guide ensures that ORA groups can fully experience the world-famous city and university. With insights into iconic University buildings, including the famous Anatomical theatre of the Archiginnasio, and tours of the city's key sites, including its porticoes, squares and towers, the tour provides an extensive and informative perspective into life at Bologna.
