By exploring four of the body’s key organs, this course will provide you with knowledge of the logical and progressive approach required by doctors to understand how the body works, how systems can break down, and how to recognise illness and treat it accordingly. Tutorial 1: The Heart (1 - 1.5 hours)

This tutorial will explore one of the most important organs within the human body: the heart. It will provide you with information regarding the anatomy of the heart, its functions, and its physiology. The tutorial will end by considering what happens when the heart goes wrong and what the doctor must do in such a situation.

Tutorial 2: The Lungs (1 - 1.5 hours)

This tutorial will discuss another organ that is fundamental to life: the lungs. It will take a look at the vital role of the lungs in the process of respiration and the anatomy of the lungs before moving on to discuss their physiology. The tutorial ends with a discussion of lung pathology – the causes, symptoms and treatment of lung disease.

Tutorial 3: The Upper GI Tract (1 - 1.5 hours)

This tutorial will take a look at the upper GI Tract which is an essential part of the abdomen. It will consider the GI Tract’s importance in the process of digestion as well as how its functions compliment those of several accessory organs such as the pancreas and liver. As usual, the tutorial will end with a practical consideration of the pathology of the GI Tract and how a doctor should respond to symptoms of anatomical failure.

Tutorial 4: The Eye (1 - 1.5 hours)

This tutorial will take a look at one of the most fascinating organs of the human body: the eye. It will cover the eye’s anatomy, physiology and pathology in an attempt to introduce you to the intricate workings of the organ that provides us with our most valued sense.

An interest and enthusiasm for science and the human body
This course would suit students studying towards A-level Biology or equivalent, and in particular those interested in university study of Medicine.
