“Oxford Royale Academy creates a small family-like community that makes everyone feel welcome and cared for. All in all, my experience at ORA is something that I will always remember and be grateful for.”
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to study abroad because I like to get out of my comfort zone and try new things. Joining ORA allowed for this – gaining new experiences through travelling, meeting new people and exploring new places. Along with the academic courses that interest me, it seemed like the perfect, most interesting summer experience.
It was my first time visiting Oxford, so I was of course impressed by the beauty of the city and its attractions. I chose to attend the Engineering Preparation course because I am interested in science, technology and innovation. I figured that attending this programme would give me a better understanding about the field of engineering, as a major at a university level, and more insight about the different disciplines of engineering. In addition, I wanted to get an understanding of university life and being independent in a completely new environment. I can definitely say that the programme has allowed me to get all of these benefits and more.
Throughout the Engineering Preparation course I learned about the specific parts of mathematics and physics which form the backbone of engineering. This included calculus and fluid mechanics, I also learned how that knowledge that we have developed through our education is applied in engineering to solve actual problems that engineers face while working on projects or research. Through our assignments and project work, I got the opportunity to learn how engineering students use theoretical knowledge combined with available technology to build models and representations of problems, and with the support of our experienced teacher, we all learned how to get the best results.
Along with my other interested classmates, we also worked with robotics and learned about university applications for engineering, which was helpful. Attending this academic course overall helped me understand what the study of engineering in university is on a deeper level, which is why I recommend it to everyone who wants to get more insight about a certain field.
During the programme, the academic classes definitely weren’t the only thing that I have learned and benefited from. Although I have attended academic and educational summer programmes before, it was my first time attending a boarding programme where I got the opportunity to study and live in a different country, with other students who come from completely different cultures and yet share similar interests. This allowed every student to become more independent and provided the chance to make new and amazing friends. This definitely adds a new dimension to the programme, and is one of the factors that make the ORA experience unique.
There were many engaging and interactive extracurricular activities every day, where I got to spend more time with my new friends who attended other academic courses. I was also able to explore the beautiful city of Oxford. My favourite excursion was when we all visited and explored London as a group, as well as watched a play, ‘Come From Away’, at the Criterion Theatre. Another factor that made my experience even more fulfilling was the welcoming, helpful and friendly staff at ORA. They were always available to help anyone and always made sure that I and my friends were doing well, that’s why ORA creates a small family-like community that makes everyone feel welcome and cared for. All in all, my experience at Oxford Royale Academy is something that I will always remember and be grateful for. Attending this programme made me more certain about my decision to study abroad, and made me realise that engineering is a field that I would like to be in, it also helped me form a clearer picture about different things in life, as well as academics.
This was an amazing opportunity, and I actually find myself excitedly telling my friends and classmates at school about this amazing programme and the great experience that I had. I would definitely love to come back for another wonderful experience.
“This experience was life-changing in so many good ways. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me realise that ‘the world is my oyster’. I highly recommend this program to students who would like a memorable international experience without limits.”
“I gained so much knowledge and experience from this trip; it showed me things that are totally different to my home country. Now I’m very interested in studying at a UK university in the future.”
“It isn’t just a summer course, it’s a meeting point for the world’s future doctors, lawyers, engineers and entrepreneurs. It is a small but great step towards world peace, where the children of today, with their many different nationalities, come together and appreciate each other.”
