“I contacted a previous student, who said the course was great, so I decided to give it a shot. I will always remember the good times I had here at Yarnton Manor”
Back home in New Jersey, I was disappointed to get a deferred entry to my chosen university, so I was forced to take a gap Yyar. I didn’t know what to do at first, but I knew I wanted to study filmmaking, so I looked around for film courses, and was lucky enough to stumble across Oxford Royale Academy, which was the only one I could find! I contacted a previous student, who said the course was great, so I decided to give it a shot.
I want to be a cinematographer, which is the person who controls everything that goes on behind the camera. I really enjoyed the theory in the core filmmaking classes, where we learned the basics, and then we followed this up with a rehearsal film. We did script work, edited our films, and tried our hand at all the aspects of producing a short film, before we produced our final film. The creative process was really exciting.
At one point during the editing process, one of the other students tripped over and hit one of the switches with his foot, and we lost all the work we had done up until that point! It was awful at the time, but later we all laughed about it.
I plan to spend the next few months at home, working, before I head off to trek around Rwanda, for some cultural immersion of a different kind! After that, I will be going to university, but I will always remember the good times I had here at Yarnton Manor.
“I found the ORA gap year course online, saved the link as ‘life saving course.’ What I needed the most was help with my UCAS application, but I also wanted to challenge myself intellectually and learn new things.”
“Year after year the allure of ORA has pulled me back. I met many different people during my first two weeks in ORA, from different cultures and backgrounds.”
“The Great Debate between Queen’s College and St Catherine’s was probably my favourite event due to the interesting topic that was discussed and the eager young minds who made it their mission to prove that their arguments were genuine and valuable.”
