Course: Business & Enterprise, Public Speaking
Age: 20 years old
“I decided to return because I fell in love with Oxford, the gardens, the old buildings, the good books…”
I first attended ORA in July 2016. I decided to go because I thought Oxford will broaden my mind and I have always been interested in studying Business Management. ORA was the perfect place to go.
I enjoyed the Business & Enterprise course, I not only learned about the subject but also about how people interact with each other, other cultures, other perspectives and so on. I made lots of new friends in 2016 and very good friends that I know I will have for life. I was sure I would meet more interesting people if I returned.
I returned to ORA in 2017. I decided to return because I fell in love with Oxford, the gardens, the old buildings, the good books… This time, I decided to try something new: public speaking. Because all these years I only studied and gained knowledge about different subjects but this time I wanted to learn how to express my knowledge. I have always had decent marks in Business & Economics. On the other hand, I’m not always very good at expressing myself in a large audience. The public speaking course was really a challenge for me. And that helped me a lot. It made me a more confident person. My presentation skills certainly improved after the course. In 2017 I joined the Oxford Summer School for ages 19 to 25. This was different to the course for 16-18s that I took before in that we had much more freedom. The course (way of teaching and activities) is really adapted to your age as well.
At ORA I have made new friends that I know I will have for life, and I have met up with many of them since attending the summer school. They are all beautiful, open minded and very cultivated people. The highlights of summer 2017 have to be: reuniting with my friend Sergio (another returning ORA alumni) and my boyfriend Hadrien who just finished his PHD in applied mathematics at Balliol College. They made me realise that we all have dreams and both have encouraged me in following them. It is very important in life, to be surrounded by people that believe in you, inspire you and lift you up. Good friends make each other better people. I met these 2 gentlemen in Oxford, thanks to ORA. I honestly feel that ORA gathers all the best people in the world in one place.
I am currently taking a German course in Vienna with Goethe Institute to improve my German, I am planning to do exports and imports between Asia and Europe and since Germany is one of the biggest economy in Europe, I think it is very important to be able to speak the language fluently.
I want to return to ORA next year but this time as a counsellor. My parents want me to gain some working experience.
“My two weeks with ORA were full of learning and challenging myself, gaining new experiences and forming friendships with wonderful people from around the world. Definitely two weeks I will remember forever!”
“The two weeks I spent at ORA were a whirlwind of exciting activities, intense learning and unforgettable experiences!”
“This was one of the best academic experiences in my life.”
