Course Summary

In everyday life, we interact with and experience innovation in the way we use financial services. This emerging field, popularly known as FinTech, is rapidly changing the global finance landscape by introducing digitised technologies for peer-to-peer transactions, online mobile payments, budgeting, investment and trade. This has led traditional banks to have to reinvent the way they do business, by using innovative financial technologies to stay relevant.

Over the two weeks, you will be introduced to the fundamentals and building blocks of financial technologies. You will gain an appreciation of various FinTech applications (e.g. Venmo, PayPal, Kickstarter, Zelle) and how they work via a set of intuitive and exciting case studies. You will also learn about regulatory technology (used to regulate financial technologies) and the many forms of FinTech, namely peer-to-peer lending, crowdfunding, blockchain and bitcoin, robo-advising, mobile payments and insurance. You will be tasked with designing and deploying financial technologies for investment and personalised transactions in ways that give you a competitive advantage.

What will you get out of the FinTech Summer Course?

By the end of this two week course you will be able to distinguish between FinTech models, namely business-to-business (B2B), business-to-client (B2C) and client-to-client (C2C). You will also gain proficiency in setting up, deploying and managing investment portfolios whilst also managing risk. The course will provide you with valuable hands-on experience of creating and deploying blockchain applications and using cryptocurrency exchanges as part of a FinTech strategy. The concepts introduced in class, and the practical projects you will complete, will leave you feeling more confident about utilising and managing financial technologies to your own advantage in an increasingly digitised world.
