In the current digital era, rapid technological advancements have a direct impact on our way of life. The field of Robotics is a clear example of this. As an interdisciplinary science, which combines mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, information engineering and computer science, robotics seeks to create systems that can replicate human actions and aid various applications.
Robots add tremendous value, operating autonomously in dangerous environments (such as underwater and in space), manufacturing systems and home automation. Within this one-week course, students will take part in a series of fun and exciting practical tasks, to provide them with the opportunity to build and interact with their own robot. In addition, they will learn about the various components and functionalities of robots, their design, behaviour and control.
During the course you will develop your logic and design skills using customisable structural robotics components. You will also gain a solid understanding of interactive robot coding and control using a simple programming platform and sensors. By the end of the course, you will possess the hardware and software skills needed to set up, build and control a robotic system. This will allow you to gain an understanding of the importance of robotics in our current digital era, and how robots are adding tremendous value to day-to-day life.
By the end of the course, students will have:
During this one-week Robotics Revolution course, students will cover the following areas:
Take this course if you are hoping to understand the functionalities of Robots in today’s digital era, and create your very own Robot.
Students on our Junior summer school courses study either at Uppingham School or St Mary's School in Ascot, our two outstanding Junior summer school venues for 2020. Students will enjoy the facilities of their venue, with extensive grounds and well-equipped learning spaces. Courses at Uppingham run from 28th June to 11th July, while courses at St Mary's run from 12th July to 15th August.
During lessons, students will be taught by experienced tutors, while outside of class they will enjoy a varied extracurricular programme in a safe environment, led by our student counsellors.
The international environment, combined with top-quality tutoring in a world-class venue, make Oxford Royale's Junior Summer School the best junior summer school in the UK.
Students will be accommodated in comfortable twin or dormitory rooms, separated by gender - please contact our registrations team if you would like more information. Accommodation is the standard accommodation for school pupils who study at either St Mary's School or Uppingham School, so students are able to get a flavour for what being a pupil at these prestigious UK boarding schools is like. Bathrooms are typically shared between students of the same gender.
The programme is overseen by the Programme Director, who implements the day-to-day running of the programme. The Director is assisted by a team of Counsellors who are there to help pupils with their daily needs and to run activities for them outside of class. The Counsellors ensure that students are looked after pastorally, culturally and socially during their programme. Students are able to talk informally and frankly to the Counsellors in order to raise concerns or to discuss their course. Residential staff live in the school throughout the programme and are able to assist students at any time of the day or night.

What our students have to say
Oxford Royale was the best summer camp I have ever attended. Not only did I learn a lot through the course, but I also met people from all over the world. In addition, I really got to know my fellow students and the counselors through the time we spent together on the excursions and evening activities. Overall, this was an awesome experience and I would recommend it to pretty much anyone.
I had an amazing time at ORA. Every student was incredibly friendly and smart, and I had a wonderful time getting to know each and every person. My time at ORA flew by and by the time it was time to leave I couldn’t believe I was leaving my new friends. I highly recommend the programme as an opportunity to make friends and learn about other cultures.
I have had an incredibly fun, cultivating experience at Oxford Royale Summer Schools. I have gained so much knowledge that will help me with studies and in life. I have also met the most incredibly intelligent people. The memories I have made here will stay with me for life as I am so happy to have stayed in Oxford.
