Oxford Royale Academy’s Film Academy summer course for ages 13-15 is an intensive filmmaking programme, designed and delivered by industry professionals.
The first part of the process is to learn the basics of production – planning, script-writing and development, location scouting, and storyboarding. Once students are ready to start filming, they work in small groups using the latest HD video cameras, professional microphones and lighting equipment to shoot their production on location. Once the film is ‘in the can’, students use the latest Apple Macs and Final Cut Pro to edit their masterpiece. Credits and titles complete the production, followed by mastering for the students’ own portfolio, for the web and for release at the graduation ceremony.
This course teaches specific skills needed to be a director, producer, director of photography or editor. With this knowledge, students are able to create their own film, identify their strengths and work with their peers to shape their work. Students also have the opportunity to work with actors and industry professionals, allowing them to experience the world of filmmaking first-hand.
From day one, students get to use HD Digital Camcorders. Top-class equipment and practical workshops mean that students can learn as they work, experimenting with different shots and refining their own style of videography.
By the end of this course, students will have:
In the afternoons, students venture out into the streets of Oxford, with full faculty guidance, to shoot a film of their own using professional quality HD video cameras. Students get the chance to try different roles throughout the film production process, including script-writing and editing, location scouting, camera operating, sound, lighting, and directing. They cut and edit their film using industry-standard software, and showcase their work to their peers at the end of the course.
