Course Summary

This two-week course will equip students with the skills to engage with pioneering material on Climate and Sustainability. During the course, the drivers and impacts of Anthropogenic Climate Change will be taught, as well as the process to help identify these. Students will explore the key term Sustainability and think about how technology, policy, and the human race can lead a shift towards a more sustainable society. Further, the current challenges and future directions of Sustainability will be explored through implementing critical analysis across a range of scientific pieces of work.

Throughout the two weeks, both written and oral assessments will be incorporated into the course to improve students’ reflective writing and group work skills. Students will be using a multidisciplinary approach, using material from traditional sciences, technology, social sciences, policy and the built environment, to apply sustainable principles across a range of scales, from local to global. As Sustainability is a rapidly evolving field, new information is constantly emerging, meaning the foundations of knowledge gained must be built upon to keep up with the field. This course is designed to help you progress with your further studies and future career, and empower you to become a more sustainable citizen, who strives for a more sustainable society.

Course Outcomes

What will you get out of studying Climate and Sustainability Summer?

By the end of this course, you will have engaged with pioneering material on Climate and Sustainability. You will have explored the key term Sustainability and thought about how variables can help lead to a shift towards a more sustainable society. As part of this, you will have looked at current challenges and future directions of Sustainability, opening up possibilities for further studies and future careers in the field. During the course, you will develop your reflective writing and group work skills through the variation of course assessments.


No specific experience or skills are expected of students wishing to participate in this course, although a strong command of the English language is vital. We ask students to bring a laptop with them. If any additional course-specific equipment or software is needed, you will be notified in advance.
